Throughout my competition BJJ career, top of half guard is probably the most common position I find myself in. This probably due to the fact I normally play on top and I love a good knee slide.
As a result, I understand how important the underhook is to half guard play. The underhook is life in the half guard, and it’s ALWAYS a battle to get it and keep it.
Over the years, I’ve learned several ways to deal with the underhook, but one of my favourites is the leg ride (or at least that’s what I call it)
The leg ride is an elegant way to take away all the power of the underhook and limit your opponent’s mobility. Plus you can set up numerous leg locks if you’re that way inclined.
So how can you learn this magical technique?
